The Flight: Taking Control

The Flight: Taking Control

Ok, you’ve got the hard lessons. It’s time to make some real change. The crying is over. This ain’t your granny’s house and I’m not going to hold your hand for you. You’re grown. We can blame “the economy” and corporate America for your screwed-up financial situation but that’s not going to help. A lot of your financial problems have been caused by one person: you.

My experience in healthcare has taught me that before we can argue the minor points of things, we have to look at the big picture. I don’t care that a diabetic’s blood sugar is elevated today. What does the trend say? How have the blood sugars looked over time? When people bitch about why their lives are so shitty, they usually avoiding the big picture and instead, they argue the little details because it absolves them from the responsibility of their own actions and behavior. We’re not doing that.

Don’t be surprised that personal finance appears to be so complex & mysterious. It’s not, but it’s made to appear that way. Honestly, it’s full of confusion, deception, and mystery meant to discourage you. The point is to make you feel guilty and stupid. The system sucks but we can’t just blame the system. This is the game we’re playing and the cards are stacked against you from the beginning. Take responsibility for your shit and get started. So many people are obsessed with how their life looks and (for that reason) they’re poor. In 2020, the average American had over $90,000 in consumer debt.
